I would say 1 out 4 people play the guitar. Alot people use or would like to use big brands like Gibson or fender. As of late though, these companies do not produce good guitars. The craftsmanship is terrible and they just don’t feel right. In fact, half of the people that play guitar will play a gibson or a fender because of the popularity or because many famous people use them. Over the years i have had many guitars and it’s amazing how a real player can make any guitar sound and play good.
I have build many drums and customized alot guitars in my short time of being alive and i would rather be seen playing the epiphone above then a real gibson les paul any day of the week.
Reasons:
The are Four key elements to make any guitar play and sound good. The wood, pickups, hardware , and overall set-up
Wood-It’s important because depending on sound you would like the wood could play a big role. This epiphone is a early 90’s one which was made a little bit better then the newer ones. It’s not made of the best mahg/maple top , but still is made of that wood which a real gibson is also made of. Many gibsons will have a better looking and better grade wood, but at the end of the day ..still came from same tree.
Pick-ups - many different kinds of pickups. many different sounds. active emgs pickups take the sound from just the strings and a battery. If you throw a emg in a squier bullet and fender usa strat …they will pretty much sound the same. Passive takes sound from the wood, strings, etc. If you have good wood, use a passive pickup. I usually only use the bridge pickup and i threw in seymour duncan JB pickup which is a great pickup that has clarity for cleans and great heavy distortion.
Hardware- Is easily the most important feature to any guitar. Guitar’s that don’t stay in tune, crappy bridges that break/cut strings and broken switchs can be a nightmare easily when your onstage crabcore-ing it up and swinging your guitar all over the place. Tuners are the second most important thing to make a guitar good. Nobody wants to hear your out of tune Drop-D breakdown. It’s bad enough that your only playing one note, at least have it in tune. I threw sperzel locking tuners on this. fast string changes and keeps it in tune. Runs around 75 bucks. Floyd roses are better? Yeah if you want a headache. Grovers are also nice if you don’t want a locking tuner. The new epiphones come stock with them, but they are cheaper ones…so don’t be fooled. Saddles are also important because thats where the string sits. If it’s sharp it will increase string breakage. Graphite saddles are very nice and for this guitar only cost 28 bucks. Switches break all the time, no matter what guitar you have. When you do have to replace it, spend the extra cash and get a good one.
The most important factor to a guitar is the set-up. SO MANY guitar players are lazy assholes and don’t give a fuck about keeping there guitar nice and fresh. Think of it of as a Oil-change. The car will run fine if you go a little over but if you never do it…it will eventually just die or in the case of a guitar your tone will suck. It’s important to at least have a set-up every month if not every week.
Sure, a gibson les paul is great but could run you alot money.
this guitar was 250 used, 75 tuners, 75 pickup, 28 saddles, free set-up cuz i know how to do them. Grand total of 428.
Don’t want to be seen with a epiphone les paul custom? want the real deal? what’s the point!
In a live situation your sweaty, moshing, crawling, breaking peoples faces with headstocks. You don’t want your expensive guitar to get fucked up. Keep those for your house and recording sessions. Many professional musicians use hot-rodded epiphones like this above. Recently i have seen kings of leon, anberlin, my chemical romance, bayside etc all use the same guitar above.
I own a 78 telecaster deluxe, gibson les paul studio, and 65 gibson es 120 and this guitar plays and sounds as good as all of them. In fact, i play this one more then any of them
